AM As we reported yesterday, the Newberry County Sheriffs Office has arrested 3 men seizing approximately 3 grams of meth, a stolen pistol, marijuana, and controlled substances. The discovery was made as the result of an investigation into a stolen pistol. Based on their investigation, warrants were issued for, Adam Kyle Baker, for stealing the pistol after it was recovered after he sold it as part of the use and sale illegal drugs. Thursday evening around 6pm, investigators received information that Baker was located at 2. Wilson Road in Newberry. When the investigators arrived at the residence, Adam Baker was located and taken into custody. On his arrest, Baker was found to be in possession of Ecstasy. He was arrested and charged with Larceny and Possession of a Controlled Substance. While the deputies were at the residence, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence. The investigators had also received numerous complaints about possible drug activity at the residence. The investigators saw a vehicle leaving the residence as they arrived and conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle. Once the vehicle was stopped, they found approximately 1. Wilson Road. The driver, James William Hill Jr., was taken into custody and charged with Possession with Intent To Distribute Meth and Driving Under Suspension. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and once inside located approximately 1. IV controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia including used needles and scales. The investigators arrested, Wyman Haskell Baker, at the residence. He was charged with DistributionPossession With Intent to Distribute Meth and Possession of Marijuana. AM The Newberry County Coalition on Underage Drinking is taking a unique approach to increase awareness among area residents of the need to grow strong communities that can stand united in opposing underage drinking and driving. Using the theme Cultivating Comm. Unity, the Coalition has placed baskets with free packets of vegetable and flower seeds at locations throughout the county. Thanks to a partnership with Lowes of Newberry and many local businesses and agencies, the Coalition will be making thousands of free vegetable and flower seed packets available, said Coalition Co Chair Michelle Long. We hope that area residents will stop by one of the many locations and select up to eight free seed packets of their choice. According to Master Deputy Sherri Scott of the Newberry County Sheriffs Office, who is also Co Chair of the Coalition, The baskets contain specially prepared bags to collect your seed packets. The bags have a message from the Coalition inviting YOU to help us Cultivate Comm. Unity by coming together to encourage a new attitude about underage drinking. We hope that as you collect your seed packets, you will read the information on the back of the bag and on an easel placed beside of the baskets. Coalition Coordinator Terecia Wilson stated, Drinking alcohol can harm the growing body and brain. Underage drinking is a major cause of death among young people. Alcohol robs our youth of opportunities to grow to their fullest potential. Therefore, its important for young people to grow up alcohol free. It takes EVERY adult in our community to encourage young people NOT to drink alcohol. It takes YOUAccording to information in the US Surgeon Generals Call to Action to Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking, a community that opposes underage drinking can help change how people think and act. Together, our community can support teen decisions NOT to drink. Its time to sow the seeds of a community united against underage drinking, said Long. A variety of vegetable and flower seeds have been donated by Lowes of Newberry for use in the project. Theres everything from pumpkin seeds to corn on the cob, green beans, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and all types of flowers, said Scott.
